PDX Pop Now! Fest Announces Lineup
Portland, Oregon PDX Pop Now!, the grassroots music festival whose
performers are nominated by the public in an online vote, debuted last summer.
It was so successful that it's back, coming to Loveland August 5-7 with a democratically
chosen lineup: The Blow, The Minders, Sarah Dougher, Viva Voce, Talkdemonic,
Nice Nice, Tara Jane O'Neil, All Girl Summer Fun Band and dozens of others.
The festival was founded in 2004 by a group of like-minded indie music fans on
an online mail list. Recognizing the need for a Portland-centric, independent-minded
gathering of local artists, they created the non-profit PDX Pop Now! The event
will
likely include surprise appearances from a few of Portland's brightest stars,
whose names won't be disclosed until the night of their performance,
according to a source close to the festival.
More than 40 acts will play throughout the day and night, offering a diverse collection of Portland artists from punk to country, hip-hop to experimental. Others set to play include Wet Confetti, 31 Knots, Desert City Soundtrack, The Planet The, Menomena side project Lackthereof, and Man of the Year.
Festival organizers have also compiled a two-CD set, featuring a wide range of Portland musicians, that benefits the event. The compilation includes unreleased tracks by The Decemberists, The Minders, Mirah, The Thermals and Helio Sequence, among others.
