Young People Tour Behind War Prayers
Following the release of their stirring second album, War Prayers (Dim Mak Records), Young People kick off a 15-date East Coast/Midwest tour Feb. 14 at Ace's Basement in Greensboro, N.C., with shows in Purchase, N.Y., on Feb. 21 and Detroit, Mich., on Feb. 25. The tour will conclude at the Ohio University Baker Center Front Room in Athens, Ohio, on Feb. 28. The majority of the dates will be played with Olympia, Wash.'s ferociously dirty blues-rockers The Gossip.
Young People lead vocalist Katie Eastburn, guitarist Jeff Rosenburg (formerly of Pink & Brown) and drummer Jarrett Silberman combine a penchant for American turn-of-the-century folk tales with blackened art-rock experimentation, resulting in an uncomfortable yet enormously powerful sound.
Young People released their debut self-titled album on 5 Rue Christian in 2002 and War Prayers this past fall. Both employ noisy, abstract guitar work, but War Prayers finds the group sprawling out a bit, making room for more spacious, intimate atmospherics and, as the title implies, gritty, old war stories.
