Damien Rice Set To Tour U.S.
Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice will launch a North American tour
his third next month. The 21-date tour kicks off on
March 23 at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado, and will conclude
on April 24 at the Odeon Concert Hall in Cleveland, Ohio. Rice will
be touring with a full band.
The 32-year old folk-rock phenomenon has been riding the ever-growing
wave of popularity in Europe and the American underground scene from
the release of his acclaimed debut album, O, in the UK in 2002
(the album was released in the U.S. in 2003), which shows no signs of
cresting soon. "It's like lovemaking," he said of his music during an
interview with Neumu last year. "Everything in life for me that I
absolutely love has exactly that same essence."
His striking music and songwriting he's been compared to Van
Morrison and Nick Drake, among others has landed O on
numerous "best album of 2003" critics' lists for publications ranging
from Neumu to Rolling Stone.
Last month Rice performed at a benefit concert in Dublin that he
helped organize to raise money for the thousands of children orphaned
and/or left homeless by the Dec. 26 Bam earthquake in Iran.
This month Rice will be touring Europe. Tour dates can be found at
his Web site.
