Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wire, Primal Scream On Buddyhead Comp
Featuring tracks from Mudhoney, Le Tigre, Primal Scream, the Icarus Line, Wire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Burning Brides, and Weezer, plus guest appearances from Iggy Pop, the compilation Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter will be available Sept. 30 on Nettwerk Records.
"It's gonna make it so hot in here you're gonna wanna take off all your clothes and jump around like an idiot," is the hype you'll find about this 16-track album on the Buddyhead site. "...It's the best 75 minutes of rock 'n' roll you're going to hear this year."
The compilation includes two previously unreleased tracks: "What the Fuck Do You Think Christina Aguilera Is Doing Right Now?," dissonant rockers Shat's tongue-in-cheek ode to a pop diva, and an interview with Iggy Pop conducted by Canadian one-of-a-kind reporter/musician Nardwuar the Human Serviette, who's best known for his eccentric, no-holds-barred approach.
Raymond Pettibon (Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn's brother, who did artwork for all the Black Flag and some of the Minutemen records) sketched a drawing of Charles Manson for the compilation's cover and a picture of a pig on an inside panel. Each of the 16 bands who contributed to the record were given an inside panel to fill with their own unique artwork, including information pertaining to their respective tracks.
Some of the album's highlights: Mudhoney's "Hard-On for War," Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Shot Down," Le Tigre's "Mediocrity Rules," Weezer's "You Won't to Get With Me?" and Wire's "Spent (Louder, Faster Mix)." You'll find the complete track listing for Gimme Skelter at the Buddyhead site. Jenny Tatone [Tuesday, July 29, 2003]
