"Kammerflimmer Kollektief" is German for "Shimmering Collective," a suitably descriptive nomenclature for this Munich-based trio. "Hysteria," the name of their second album, is less indicative of the musical content than of a possible eventual reaction to the growing sense of loneliness embodied in the purely instrumental sound. The audio histrionics are subtle but well defined, creating orchestras out of rusty windswept swing-sets. Adrift on a grainy hiss of texture and scratchiness, the adrenalin is slowly measured in deliberate and deep meandering violins. The surge comes on slowly. Saxophones play hide-and-seek, alternately squeaking, squawking, squealing and talking... then fall silent. These are the songs of empty playgrounds everywhere.
