In football, one more yard can be the difference between winning and losing a game. Well, the makers of the enjoyable Bruce Willis-Matthew Perry wacky-hitman comedy "The Whole Nine Yards" decided to grind out a sequel, "The Whole Ten Yards." They went a yard too far. And lost. To mix sports metaphors, "The Whole Nine Yards" came out of left field and found a decent-sized audience for its unlikely marriage of jokes 'n' gang violence. Perry, as fearful dentist/mob target Oz Oseransky, and Willis, as obsessive, emotional contract killer Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski, made for a funny odd couple in a sharply written escapade that also involved Jimmy's beautiful-but-deadly ex Cynthia (Natasha Henstridge) and Oz's sexy dental assistant Jill (Amanda Peet), a wannabe hitwoman. "Ten Yards" presumes familiarity with the characters and checks in with them a few years later. The still-paranoid Oz married Cynthia and set up a busy practice in Los Angeles. Jimmy married Jill and tried to retire to a beach resort in Mexico. But the release of the English-garbling Hungarian mob boss Lazlo Gogolak (Kevin Pollak), whose son was offed in the previous film, has Oz, Jimmy, Cynthia and Jill dodging bullets again. Only this time, they're involved in a pointless, incoherent, humorless exercise in movie-biz commerce.
