Ain't no stoppin' the sequels. The perfunctory "Scary Movie 2" reunited the miscreants behind the sporadically funny parody of the horror-film genre, "Scary Movie." But the responsible parties, director Keenen Ivory Wayans and his writing/acting brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans, gave up the reins to "Scary Movie 3," a negligible sequel to the sequel. Jerry Zucker, who collaborated on the first and foremost modern movie parody "Airplane!," took over as director/co-writer. Other scripters and punch-up guys, including filmmaker Kevin Smith ("Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"), had a hand in "Scary Movie 3" to little avail. Clueless heroine Anna Faris and her mouthy sidekick Regina Hall are the sole holdovers from the first two films. This time, targets for derision include "The Ring," "Signs," "The Matrix" and, off-topic, Eminem's hip-hop success story "8 Mile." Charlie Sheen lampoons Mel Gibson's character from the alien-invasion film "Signs," and Zucker favorite Leslie Nielsen is on board as a dim-witted U.S. president. Various comics, rappers and celebrity sex-bombs have cameos, and Queen Latifah makes a brief, cheering appearance. For a "Scary Movie," it's a slight improvement on the previous entry. | |||
