Rest easy. Carter, the pained darling of numerous British costume dramas, is back in period garb for "The Heart of Me" — a World War II-era melodrama about a love triangle comprising stuffy, repressed Rickey Masters (Paul Bettany of "A Beautiful Mind"), his distant wife Madeleine (Olivia Williams of "Below") and her willful, nonconformist sister Dinah (Carter). Mounted with competence by director Thaddeus O'Sullivan, acted with conviction and not terribly memorable, this is a bit tonier than a BBC miniseries and not as lofty as a big-bucks Merchant-Ivory production, such as Carter's breakthrough "Room With a View." As Madeleine tries to find a proper mate for unconventional Dinah, a secret affair begins. Rickey and Dinah, increasingly obsessed with one another, carry on in clandestine ecstasy. Will the truth will be revealed? Will the sinners be punished? Look into the unfortunately-titled "The Heart of Me," and you'll get your answers.
