It's safe to say that "A Guy Thing" reeks of Hollywood magic — the kind that should make it disappear from public consciousness faster than David Copperfield makes an insipidly grinning showgirl vanish. A cynically-packaged, teen-skewed, written-by-committee romantic comedy, it does no favors for its youthful, not-too-bankable-but-usually-likable stars Jason Lee, Julia Stiles and Selma Blair. Lee, so wry in such films as "Almost Famous" and "Mumford," is a cipher as Paul, a proper, blandly amiable guy who's about to get married to his boss's daughter, sensible rich girl Karen (Blair). But Paul meets cute, free-spirited Becky (Stiles) when she's working as a grass-skirted "tiki dancer" at his bachelor party. After some drinky-drinky, Paul and Becky wake up next to one another in his bedroom. Oops! And guess what? Becky is Karen's cousin! Double oops! Could Becky really be The One for Paul? How will he find out before the wedding while Karen, her uptight parents, his brother, his best friend and Becky's ex-boyfriend — a corrupt cop with 'roid-rage — are in the way? Unfunny. Unoriginal. And worse: "A Guy Thing" is a dull thing.
