Because of an ancient spell, the brain of a pretty-but-egotistical high-school cheerleader is switched into the body of a scummy petty thief in "The Hot Chick," the latest low-brow romp from comic actor Rob Schneider. Now, Jessica needs to get her consciousness back into her own nubile body, taken over by the crook, on the eve of the big cheerleading competition and senior prom. "The Hot Chick" is a crude, funny mix of "Freaky Friday" and "All of Me," with Schneider giving his most appealing performance as the horrified teen queen stuck in a less-than-studly 30-year-old male physique. Jessica's shallow sycophants react with shock, and her best friend (Anna Faris) gets a little too comfy with the newly masculine girl. As the real Jessica, Rachel McAdams is a find, playing it burlesque-sexy or heartless, and she conveys "depraved" with the thief's brain inside her. Schneider has made a career out of a schnook persona like the one that brought screen success to Adam Sandler, his "Saturday Night Live" colleague. Sandler co-produces Schneider's films and does a silly cameo here. But "The Hot Chick" is Rob's show, and he carries it off. | |||
