In the realm of female buddy pictures, actress Susan Sarandon has gone from the iconographic, startling "Thelma and Louise" to "The Banger Sisters," a jocular bit of fluff about two former rock groupies who reunite in middle age. Sarandon's team-up with Goldie Hawn in "The Banger Sisters" (the nickname given to Suzette and Vinny when they were bed-hopping through the L.A. rock scene) turns out to be a pleasant surprise. Hell, the comedy, written and directed by Bob Dolman, is a tart, funny romp. Suzette (Hawn), still wild after all these years, is canned from her bartending job at a Sunset Strip rock club. Penniless, she decides to head for Phoenix to borrow money from Vinny (Sarandon), who renounced her former ways, married a wealthy lawyer, has two teenage daughters and now goes by the posh "Lavinia." Along the way, Suzette picks up a neurotic writer (the gifted Geoffrey Rush) on a mission of his own. Vinny is horrified to see Suzette again. Complications ensue. Hawn and Sarandon are a ball to watch.
