So unscary. So behind-the-curve. The monumentally nonsensical horror movie "feardotcom" is based on a faulty premise: contrary to what the filmmakers want you to believe, the idea that a series of deaths mysteriously occur 48 hours after the victims log onto a creepy Web site isn't very frightening. (Much more frightening is the realization that mountains of stock options and 401(k)s belonging to thousands of out-of-work Internet-company employees are actually worthless.) What's truly alarming about "feardotcom" is the presence of three decent actors, Stephen Dorff ("Blade"), Natascha McElhone ("The Truman Show") and Stephen Rea ("The Crying Game"), in such claptrap. Dorff is the defiant police detective determined to figure out why four Web-surfers logged off, permanently. McElhone is a Department of Health researcher trying to find out if computer use is really lethal. If you decide to "download" this load, you only have yourself to blame. Laughable, pretentious cyber-occult baloney. | |||
