The third film in the James Bond series was "Goldfinger." The third film in the Austin Powers series, with actor/writer Mike Myers spoofing '60s spy movies such as the Bond pictures, is "Goldmember." And its title indicates the comedy's reliance on sex and scatology. With Verne "Mini-Me" Troyer, Seth Green and the rest of the original cast aboard, "Goldmember" gets some jollies from familiar bits besides the foibles of horny, bespectacled, snaggletoothed secret agent Powers. Myers has a ball in multiple roles as Powers, arch-enemy Dr. Evil, gross assassin Fat Bastard and Evil's henchman, Goldmember. As the story goes, the time-traveling Powers pairs with '70s soul sister Foxxy Cleopatra (singer Beyoncé Knowles) to rescue his father and fellow super-spy Nigel (jaunty Michael Caine) from Evil's latest plot. The opening promises big fun: Our hero is present at the making of a Hollywood film based on his exploits, and the segment's superstar cameos are a blast. Then the self-parody-of-a-parody peters out. | |||
