With an uncanny eye for form and function in the most rugged or barren landscape, Goldsworthy builds beautiful, usually perishable installations whose very evanescence adds a profound dimension to every piece he creates. He uses materials such as stones, leaves, ice, twigs and sticks in settings that range from Arctic wastes to sylvan New England glades to the creeks near his own rural home. The astonishing results are nothing less than visual, environmental poetry. "Rivers and Tides" is so perfectly, lovingly shot by German filmmaker Thomas Riedelsheimer that its own artfulness is cause for acclaim.
