	Christine Jeffs Alicia Fulford-Wierzbicki, Sarah Peirse, Marton Csokas, Alistair Browning, Aaron Murphy 2001		The shockingly assured, old-before-her-years performance by young Alicia Fulford-Wierzbicki as precocious, cynical 13-year-old Janey is the keystone of "Rain," a deeply personal family drama that occurs in a remote New Zealand seaside community during the sticky summer of 1972. Janey, her mother (Sarah Peirse), her father (Alistair Browning) and her little brother (Aaron Murphy) are idly floating through a humid, leisurely vacation. But Janey's mum begins to acknowledge an attraction towards Cady (Marton Csokas), a good-looking, free-booting photographer whose boat is moored near the family's summer home. Dad seems clueless about the possibility that his marriage is in trouble, but Janey notices and, becoming aware of her budding sexuality, jealously fixates on Cady. Writer/director Christine Jeffs adapted her script from Kirsty Gunn's novel and brings a quietly foreboding mood to an innocuous situation that could go tragic. As for Fulford-Wierzbicki, she's a little miracle.
