	The Sweetest Thing
	Roger Kumble Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, Thomas Jane, Selma Blair, Jason Bateman, Parker Posey 2002		As comedy, romance or simple-minded entertainment, "The Sweetest Thing" leaves a sour taste. But it's a hearty "Screw you!" from screenwriter Nancy Pimental to anyone who thinks gals can't be as raunchy as guys. The film laboriously relates the sexual escapades of three young women carousing in the San Francisco club scene — minus the piercings and roofies. It stars Cameron Diaz, who was already the heroine of a landmark in lewd-and-indecent comedies, the Farrelly Brothers' "There's Something About Mary." Herein, she's queen of the noncommittal party girls, until she meets an overgrown frat boy (Thomas Jane) and thinks he might be "the one." She and one of her pals, played by the scene-stealing Christina Applegate, take a road trip to track down the dick, while their other friend (Selma Blair) goes wild back home. The glut of forced jokes involving various erogenous zones, bodily secretions and doin' "it" suggest that Pimental may be the lost Farrelly sister. Only not so funny.
