Yep. Forty days. Forty nights. That's what it feels like watching this supposed sex comedy starring squinty 20-something hunk Josh Hartnett ("Black Hawk Down") as Matt, a Web site designer at a flush S.F. dot-com ad agency. (How 2000!) But you'd think more would be accomplished over 40 days and nights than the film's salvo of puerile boner gags, fraternal back-stabbing, co-worker manipulation and venal seduction. Matt's on the rebound since a breakup with his girlfriend (Vinessa Shaw), and he feels so out of sorts that he decides to give up sex for Lent, although his brother (who is studying for the priesthood) and friends are skeptical. Inevitably, Matt's roommate and co-workers decide to bet on when the vow will be broken, leading to schemes directed against the blue-balled boy. Complicating matters, Matt falls for a dreamy, independent, cyber-wise girl (Shannyn Sossamon of "A Knight's Tale") who thinks he's a freak 'cause he won't put out. But where's the funny? Not here. | |||
