Incredible blend of archetypal Japanese animation character designs and storytelling from Osamu Tezuka, the Disney of Japan and acknowledged father of anime, and up-to-the-millisecond computer-generated settings. Based on Tezuka's 1949 comic book series, "Metropolis" reflects the hyper-modern edge of its screenwriter Katsuhiro Otomo, who conceived the epic cybertronic anime "Ghost in the Shell." The plot also shows the influence of Fritz Lang's classic silent film "Metropolis," "Star Wars" and other sci-fi significa. In Tezuka's gleaming city of the future, humans and a class of robot workers coexist in an uneasy symbiosis. A ruthless civic leader plans to seize control of the world with Tima, a new super robot in the form of an innocent girl. But, in grimy quarters below the surface, humans who lost jobs to the robots are planning a revolution. Into this maelstrom comes a detective and his nephew Tenichi, whose encounter with Tima makes them the target of forces on all sides. | |||
