Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
John A. Davis Patrick Stewart, Martin Short 2001 |
Although not the high caliber of Pixar features such as "Monsters, Inc.," Nickelodeon's "Jimmy Neutron" franchise-in-the-making is a good bet for precocious kids searching for the sugar-rush of an uncomplicated, Day-Glo-colored, computer-animated feature with a plucky nerd hero, a robot dog and a lot of wish fulfillment. Jimmy is a super-smart misfit who lives with his loving mom and dad in an idealized suburb, Retroville. Although Jimmy's scientific experiments succeed as often as they go awry, he's still belittled as a freak and geek by the cooler kids at his elementary school. Only his roly-poly best friend defends Jimmy. But evil alien life-forms (brains in floating egg-shaped containers) intercept an interstellar welcoming message that Jimmy sent into space, and they decide to kidnap every adult in town. Now, all the children will have to rely on Jimmy's prodigious intellect to recover their parents from a faraway planet. Note: Patrick Stewart and Martin Short voice eggy alien chiefs Goobot and Ooblar.
