Harold Becker John Travolta, Teri Polo, Vince Vaughn, Steve Buscemi 2001 |
It's not enough to simply have a cherished movie star such as John Travolta go through his paces on the silver screen particularly if the vehicle he's carrying is so nausea-inducing, dumb or dull that watching it unspool is akin to having someone tattoo your forehead with a ball-peen hammer. (Two words: "Battlefield Earth.") This formula thriller with Travolta is not nearly that deep in the barrel. But a viewer with a little sense knows exactly what's going to transpire, reels before it comes to pass. Travolta is a good guy/recovering alcoholic/boat builder in a mid-Atlantic seaside town. Divorced from his wife (Teri Polo), he's still an ideal father to his young son. The boy never got over his parents' divorce, though, and he's even balkier upon learning that Mom is marrying her rich, glad-handing boyfriend (Vince Vaughn, in slimy mode). Stepdad might have an unsavory past. Real Dad might have to save the day. If you enjoy feeling like Kreskin, check it out. With Steve Buscemi. | |||
