Some "genius" at a movie studio actually said, "I've got a great idea! Let's team Sir Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock in a spy thriller!" Right. And can we get Dame Judi Dench and Queen Latifah to co-star in a post-modern feminist Western? No? Oh well. Hopkins is miscast as a CIA operative (from the British branch of the CIA?) trying to track down a stolen suitcase nuke that must not fall into the wrong hands. He's nearly killed while trying to procure the weapon, but his life is saved by a stylish colleague who dies in the process. Now, the aging spy must track down the late agent's twin brother a ticket-scalpin', chess-hustlin', hip-hoppin' DJ and train him to complete the mission, or Manhattan may go "blooey!" The twins are played in jivey, offhand fashion by Rock, who appears to be in a different movie than this one. T'ain't no chemistry between him and Hopkins, but there are lots of guns 'n' bombs 'n' sarcasm. What else do you expect from hack director Joel Schumacher ("Batman & Robin") and the schlock factory of producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("Armageddon")? | |||
