The title puts it aptly. Forget about quality scripts, smart directing and multi-layered acting. It's the money that matters. Here's a waste of millions that was intended as a caper comedy reuniting Ice Cube and Mike Epps (the stars of the ghetto farce "Next Friday") and designed as a commercial vehicle and nothing else. No pretensions of art to get in the way of the flat, vulgar jokes and violent action sequences. Cube's dramatic film debut in "Boyz N the Hood" showed such promise. For "All About the Benjamins," he's taking the low road as disgruntled Miami bounty hunter Bucum Jackson, who wants to score as much cash as he can in order to start his own private detective agency. Bucum is chasing petty con Reggie Wright (Epps) when they stumble upon a gang of murderous diamond thieves. Bucum wants to apprehend the perps for the good publicity, and Reggie wants to recover his winning lottery ticket (it's in the gang's van), but they know too much! With Eva Mendes as Reggie's gal. | |||
