Just another tedious mess. As "Scary Movie" is to "Scream," "Not Another Teen Movie" is to "American Pie": A limp, scattershot parody of a sharp genre parody. "Not Another..." is omnivorous as it cannibalizes the teensploitation wave that began in the '80s with films such as director John Hughes' "16 Candles." There are references and homages to "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for the older set, "She's All That," "10 Things I Hate About You," "Cruel Intentions," "Bring It On" and "American Pie" for the younger set, and even a couple of swipes at Oscar winner "American Beauty." Hell, the kids attend John Hughes High. The usual suspects are all here: ugly duckling, jock, scheming cheerleader, virgin, nerd, rich kid, sexy exchange student. But you'd have to be pretty hungry for a time-killing activity to count and catalog the allusions and cameos (Lacey Chabert, Jason Mewes, Melissa Joan Hart, etc.), 'cause nuthin's funny. Except shameless Randy Quaid playing a drunk dad. | |||
