It's oddly structured, confusing and enigmatic. So whaddya expect from resolutely eccentric director David Lynch? If you like his work ("Blue Velvet," "Lost Highway," etc.), this odyssey of an innocent young actress (Naomi Watts) who comes to Hollywood for her big break, meets an amnesiac beauty (Laura Elena Harring) and stumbles onto a murder plot is worth a look. Coming after Lynch's change-of-pace, Oscar-nominated docu-drama "The Straight Story," it's a return to his usual, freaky outer limits, complete with naïfs, bizarre villains, doppelgängers, sideshow bit players, hallucinogenic sequences, unexplained mysteries and swatches of morbidity. Originally meant as the pilot for a TV show in the spirit of Lynch's influential, watershed series "Twin Peaks," "Mulholland Drive" was retooled into a feature after the network of record withdrew its support. Lynch had to reconfigure the film, which may explain why it's so open-ended, posing more questions than it answers. It's Lynchus Interruptus.
